COVID-19 presented a sudden and unprecedented challenge for the entire world. Although it threatened to halt our progress, to puncture our sails, our ship has never stopped sailing. Strategies outlined in our National Development Plan (NDP 2015-2030) anchored us amidst the turbulence and kept us poised for a prosperous future.
Our NDP is based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), on five key areas: a thriving economy, strong national identity, highly functional education system, leadership and sustainable development. The NDP showed us that with good governance we can pull up the anchors that threaten to hold us down. Our hopes hinge on good governance and all that it entails: respect for the rule of law, removal of red tape, equity and innovation. Our future growth will be underpinned by the motivation and development of our people, by the opportunities we provide for them, the sense of place, the assurance that their value in this land is assured.
With the NDP as the rudder, this island ship is sailing towards becoming a middle-class economy, with an education system guided by best practices, a stronger labour force, increased and more meaningful employment, widespread use of green-tech and a business-friendly climate that is diverse, equitable and transparent. This is our vision. This is what we will achieve.
